Ever since it was hit with a delay, Batman: Arkham Knight has quietly slinked off the scene as Rocksteady added a further layer of polish onto its upcoming sequel. But today, the revered studio brought the open-world follow-up back with a bang thanks to this all-new gameplay trailer.
Showcasing the brute strength of the Batmobile along with the expansive scope of the in-game world, the footage charts a mission that sees The Caped Crusader infiltrate an Ace Chemicals lab, pummelling a few goons and crooks in the process.
Taking place a full year after the events of its predecessor Arkham City, Rocksteady has built the upcoming sequel so that players will be introduced to a Batman at the very peak of his powers — and he’ll need them. When an array of villains descend on Gotham City — including the likes of Harley Quinn, Two Face and Scarecrow — The Dark Knight must go toe to toe with some of the most renown personas in DC’s beloved vault, which means that Arkham Knight is certainly shaping up to be a fitting conclusion for what is one of the best action series of the modern era.
Speaking of which, this is the first entry in Rocksteady’s series that will give players full rein of the Batmobile, and the ability to tear down walls and take down enemies will be at your disposal. In fact, Batman: Arkham Knight will also herald a host of new gameplay mechanics, including the Fear Takedown move that can be glimpsed in the above trailer.
This recently-released video is the first instalment in a three-part series, with the next chapter due to arrive soon before the conclusive clip drops during the PlayStation Experience event at the beginning of December.
Batman: Arkham Knight will swoop onto PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on June 2nd, 2015.
