Could a downloadable first-person shooter set in Gotham City really be coming to video game devices in the relatively near future? That seems like the case, after a surprising and strange press release was issued to officially announce a title called Gotham City Impostors. The game will be a downloadable title from the folks at Monolith, who are well-known for developing the popular FPS, F.E.A.R.
According to the information that has been released thus far, the game will allow players to play as characters who are essentially imposters of Batman, the Joker and other famous dwellers of Gotham City. Character creation is a big part of the game, as the developers plan to allow gamers to create their own characters for use in the game’s gun-based battles. From what we know thus far, it seems as if the game centres around a battle between two separate groups: those who are trying to be like the Dark Knight himself, and those who idolize the maniacal Joker.
This is one of the strangest announcements in recent memory, and has come completely out of left field. It has the potential to be good, but guns and Gotham City don’t necessarily sound right together. Monolith have the ability to pull it off though, so who knows.
A recently leaked picture (seen above) showing a ragtag group of imposters should give you a good idea of the game’s theme, as well as the creative costumes that its characters can cover themselves in.
