Borderlands 2, developed by Gearbox Software, is currently scheduled for release this September on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The possibility of a port for the PlayStation Vita was recently brought up by the head of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, at a press conference.
Pitchford said that while he would like to see the game ported to the new handheld, the developer won’t be able to do it themselves. “We’re too busy to develop it ourselves,” Pitchford said. “But I know there are a lot of talented developers who could take our code, our source and our content and perhaps create something like that.”
In other words, a future release of Borderlands 2 on the Vita could theoretically happen, but it would have to be handled by a different company. Pitchford also added, “Perhaps some of you folks can convince Sony to start that,” hoping that mass fan requests would drop a hint of consumer interest.
Borderlands 2 comes out September 18. We will keep you updated on the game, as well as any announcements regarding a Vita version, as news develops.
