We haven’t heard much about the Final Fantasy X re-release since it was announced at a Japanese conference back in…um…September. However, Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto has at least clarified something. It seems they aren’t building the game from the ground up, and with good reason.
Hashimoto, speaking at the Taipei Game Show, wanted to make sure that everyone knows the game would simply being upgrade to run in HD, similar to last years ICO/Shadow of the Colossus compilation. There was word spreading (apparently) that the game would be re-made from the ground up, closer to something like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D or Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.
So that means those of you hoping that the cringe worthy scene of Tidus and Yuna laughing (pictured hilariously above) might be changed with new voice overs or something, you’re outta luck.
For those who might remember, various designers within Square Enix keep saying the reason they don’t work on projects that people keep asking for, like the eternally requested Final Fantasy VII re-make, is because it would literally take several years and a ton of money and resources in order to work on a project that huge.
But hey, Square, if you want to take a break between Final Fantasy Versus XIII and the inevitable Final Fantasy XV in order to make such a project come true, I’m all for that.
We’ll see Final Fantasy X HD sometime between now and when the world ends. Hopefully.
