Despite fierce and otherworldly competition over the last seven days, EA’s latest (and, arguably, greatest) entry into the FIFA franchise has held onto the number one spot in the UK all-format charts for a second consecutive week. According to figures published by GfK, FIFA 15 managed to survive the acid-spewing onslaught from The Creative Assembly’s Alien: Isolation, which itself debuted in second place.
Here are this week’s standings in full:
1) FIFA 15
2) Alien: Isolation
3) Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor
4) Forza Horizon 2
5) DriveClub
6) Destiny
7) Skylanders Trap Team
8) NBA 2K15
9) Smash Bros. for 3DS
10) Minecraft: PlayStation Edition
Other new entries this week include Skylanders Trap Team — which had a “solid start,” according to GfK — NBA 2K15 and Driveclub. Drifting into fifth place, Evolution’s racing sim performed relatively well given that it was only available on one platform, whereas the former two entered the charts at sixth and seventh, respectively. And though it failed to break into the coveted top ten, Square Enix’s revamped Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition debuted at thirteenth.
In all likelihood, FIFA 15 will remain at the top of the pack over the coming weeks (until Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare hits at the start of November, at least). For Alien: Isolation, though, the first-person scarefest might not find it so easy to remain in the top three come next week, even though it is available across a myriad of platforms.
Speaking of which, players can look forward to the release of The Evil Within, Gearbox Software’s Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and F1 2014 over the next seven days. Whether either of these titles will make a direct impact on the above standings remains to be seen, but given the marketing campaign behind The Evil Within and, perhaps more significantly, Shinji Mikami’s return to survival horror, it seems Tango Gameworks’ psychological horror could prove to be the dark horse in the race against FIFA 15.
