It was the battle of EA franchises old and new in this week’s all-formats chart, as FIFA 14 pipped Titanfall to return to the number one spot.
The figures, which were published by UK tracking agency GfK, also revealed the slim margin between the company’s two games, with only a few hundred copies separating first and second place. Here’s the comprehensive list of this week’s top ten:
1) FIFA 14
2) Titanfall
3) Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition
4) Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
5) 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil
6) Call of Duty: Ghosts
7) The Amazing Spider-Man 2
8) The Lego Movie Videogame
9) Battlefield 4
10) Grand Theft Auto V
On top of reclaiming first place, this week’s standings also marked a new milestone for the company’s evergreen footie simulator. In fact, this is FIFA 14’s 12th week as the number one title, which eclipses the 11-week record previously held by FIFA: Road To The World Cup ’98.
In terms of new releases, Minecraft’s long-awaited debut on PlayStation 3 entered at third, with the Xbox 360 version — an immovable stalwart of this chart — following closely behind. Though there weren’t many other new entries that charted, 3DS exclusive Kirby: Triple Deluxe managed to Vulcan Jab its way into 16th.
Elsewhere, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil and Call of Duty: Ghosts remain unchanged in the last 7 days, and hold fifth and sixth place, respectively. Looking ahead to next week, though, FIFA 14 and company will have to contend with some new releases in the form of Drakengard 3, Tropico 5 and MachineGames’ Nazi-killing romp, Wolfenstein: The New Order.
