With the April release of Mortal Kombat X quickly approaching, NetherRealm Studios has debuted a new trailer that reveals a pair of returning combatants. Joining new fighters such as Cassie Cage and Kotal Kahn will be fan favorites Kung Lao and Kitana. Both characters have been series regulars since 1993’s Mortal Kombat II, and both were heavily featured in the 2011 reboot of the franchise.
Since Mortal Kombat X is set 25 years after the events of Mortal Kombat, Kung Lao has been aged appropriately. Even as an old man, however, Mr. Lao is still as fierce and tough as he was as a young fellow. As a member of the Edenian race, Kitana still appears as youthful as she did the last time around. Of course, if you remember the events of the last game, you may be wondering exactly how these two have returned to fight once again.
The end of the trailer also debuts the first footage of the returning Goro, who will be available as a pre-order bonus. Presumably, the four-armed warrior will be available to all-owners of Mortal Kombat X somewhere down the line.
One of the many things that the Mortal Kombat reboot did right was the fact they removed several unnecessary faces from the roster. By eliminating dead weight such as Taven and Hsu Hao, NetherRealm Studios was able to focus on creating a wonderful and intricate plot. Now, with a handful of new and returning fighters, the studio is poised to further evolve the story of the franchise.
We will continue to have coverage of Mortal Kombat X in the lead-up to its April 14 release date. While you wait, however, why not take a look at the latest trailer above and let us know what you think in the comments section below.
