Codemasters announced this week that the latest version of their Formula One racer, F1 2013, will launch for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on October 8th in North America, and on October 4th across Europe.

As part of the launch announcement, Codemasters also revealed that F1 2013 will feature a gameplay mode called F1 Classics. This all-new mode will let players race “classic cars on iconic circuits against legendary drivers” from the 1980s. Additionally, the premium edition of the game will include two DLC packs centered around content and classic tracks from the 1990s.

The fact that the 1980s and (even more depressing) the 1990s are now considered “classic” has suddenly made me feel extremely old.

My old grey beard aside, the publisher has also released a new hot lap video that uses work-in-progress in-game footage from F1 2013‘s Hungaroring circuit. The video follows Toro Rosso–Ferrari’s Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo as he tackles one lap around the famous circuit. Retired Formula One driver and Codemasters’ technical consultant Anthony Davidson is also along for the ride, as he provides tips on how players should take on each of the track’s turns to maintain as much speed as possible.
