Paradox Interactive have revealed that the newest addition to their popular strategy series is arriving soon by confirming the release date for Europa Universalis IV: Mare Nostrum. The announcement was made via a developer diary video that also outlines the changes that the upcoming instalment will bring to the series.
The new Naval themed update brings a lot to the table, and Mare Nostrum adds new depth to many parts of the classic empire builder, including new options for the merchant republics. These tiny financially motivated states can now form Trade Leagues, uniting their commercial might in a military and a mercantile alliance that makes everyone richer and stronger.
The expansion also introduces new mercenary options with greater control over your naval missions, the chance to rent your armies as condottieri, and the ability to share maps with your neighbours.
And even if you decide not to add Mare Nostrum to your Europa Universalis IV game, you’ll still be getting a substantial free update when a new patch for the core game. This update will add a map expansion bringing greater detail, a new ‘States and Territories’ system and a bunch of new interface and gameplay tweaks.
Europa Universalis IV: Mare Nostrum will be available from April 5th, with the core game’s newest patch also launching on the very same day.
