In a gaming landscape filled with sequels, there are still a few IPs that people want to revisit and Eternal Darkness, the 2002 psychological horror game from Silicon Knights, is certainly one of them.

Earlier this year, the developers teased a return to “their most requested IP” leading many to assume that Eternal Darkness 2 was finally in the works. However, if the rumours from NeoGAF are true, it appears that fans may have to struggle to maintain their sanity once again following Silicon Knights’ recent lawsuit loss against Epic Games.

According to NeoGAF user Shiggy, Nintendo have pulled their support for the project following the proceedings:

“When Nintendo saw that they would need to pay an additional 10 million USD to have the company survive that develops the game, they didn’t seem to like it, especially as they wouldn’t get anything in return. NCL reviewed its decision and it appears as if Eternal Darkness 2 is cancelled for now.”

Whilst only a rumour, it makes an unnerving amount of sense, and whilst the project was only ever hinted at in the past, its future looks like it will be eternally dark.
