Earlier this week the Australian Classification Board posted a new rating for an unannounced “Premium Edition” of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, prompting well-founded speculation that a re-release for Ninja Theory’s action adventure title is in the works.
The listing does not spell out exactly what is in the Premium Edition of Enslaved, however, it does reveal that Ninja Theory and Namco Bandai are involved with the “Modified” version of the game. What that means exactly is anyone’s guess, but we are assuming that the title will at least include the Pigsy’s Perfect 10 DLC.
Namco Bandai has not announced Enslaved: Odyssey to the West – Premium Edition, so consider this a rumor until we get the official high sign.
Launched in October 2010 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was received positively by critics but it sadly failed to live up to Namco Bandai’s expectations. Worldwide sales were reported to be just shy of 500K back in February 2011, which seemed to kill off the idea of turning the IP into a franchise.
In my mind, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is one of the best titles for this generation of consoles. The Journey to the West inspired story provides the perfect backdrop to watch the bond between Monkey and Trip (the two main characters) develop over the course of the game. Here is hoping that the Premium Edition becomes a reality, because this is one gem that truly deserves a second chance to find its audience.
