After scoring upwards of nine million sales and practically unanimous praise across the board, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that, after wrapping up the single-player DLC and final multiplayer tweaks in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Naughty Dog will circle back to its Cordyceps-ridden world to craft a sequel to The Last of Us.
Details remain few and far between at the moment, of course, and considering just how ambiguous the game’s ending proved to be, there are scores of fan theories littering the Internet about the possible creative avenues that Naughty Dog could explore with its follow-up. Perhaps the story of how the Fireflies came to be? Or, in the more likely scenario, picking up directly where things left off and thrusting players into the boots of Joel and Ellie?
Should such an arc come to fruition, Ellie voice actress Ashley Johnson told GameSpot recently that she would be “totally on board” for The Last of Us 2 if and when ND sets the wheels in motion.
“I feel like if they were to pursue it again, if they were to have another story for Ellie or Joel or that whole world, I would totally jump on board. But you know there’s also a part of me that thinks, ‘Man, the story could stand alone,’ and sometimes we should just leave it alone. If they were to make another one, though, I would love to be a part of it.”
There’s also the prospect of Sony’s languishing movie adaptation of The Last of Us. Could Johnson carry Ellie through into the realm of live-action? “Yeah, I’d be a clicker,” the actress joked.
Last we reported, The Last of Us movie was effectively on ice with little-to-no progress to report in close to a year. Ditto for Uncharted, though writer-director Joe Caranhan did climb aboard just recently to hash out a script.
