Brace those heartstrings, folks; Yarny, the adorable bundle of joy that enthralled much of the industry earlier this year is all but set to appear in Unravel 2, now that EA has extended its development partnership with Coldwood Interactive.
Headed up by Martin Sahlin, the Swedish studio first emerged onto the scene at E3 last year, before eventually releasing Unravel to rave reviews back in February.
In a statement, EA Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund spoke with excitement about Coldwood’s future under the publisher, though stopped short of clarifying whether the studio’s next project is indeed Unravel 2.
Here’s an extract pulled from Söderlund’s blog post:
“It’s been quite incredible to see the community’s love for Yarny, both in the game and beyond. At EA, we love working with creative and passionate development teams, in our own studios and our partners. Which is why I’m very pleased to announce that we’ve signed a new agreement with Coldwood to work with them on their next project.”
Word of Coldwood returning to the well for Unravel 2 ought to excite fans of the original release, particularly as it gives the development team the chance to iron out any niggles that tarnished Yarny’s maiden voyage (read: frustrating mechanics).
For the time being, both EA and Coldwood are remaining coy about the latter’s next creative venture, though we can surely expect to learn more during the inaugural EA Play event next month.
