PC gamers can happily join in on the nostalgic memories of Scrooge McDuck and his nephews as Capcom has announced that DuckTales Remastered will be heading to Steam, Origin and various other online retailers. The remake of the classic NES game was announced at this year’s PAX East and is being developed by WayForward, with a release sometime later this summer in glorious high definition.
The original DuckTales game was developed back in the late 80s by key developers at Capcom, including Mega Man series creator, Kenji Infanune. The critically acclaimed side-scroller is often brought up as an example of how to create a successful tie-in to another media due to its well-crafted game design. In the original, players control Scrooge as he adventures through various levels collecting all sorts of treasures so he can retain the title of the world’s richest duck. After it sold over a million copies, the game was later ported to the original Game Boy where it would once again achieve commercial success.
With E3 right around the corner, it is quite likely that we will be hearing more about the upcoming downloadable title as the PC announcement hinted at a reveal of a remastered level for the game. The game is said to use almost all of the original game’s levels and designs but with hand drawn 2-D sprites in a 3-D environment and voice work from the cast of the original TV series.
