Deus Ex: Mankind Divided‘s second and final story expansion – Criminal Past – will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on February 23, developer Eidos Montréal has announced. Set to take place before the events of the main game, the official announcement states that Criminal Past will explore Adam Jensen’s history with Task Force 29 and will see the return of characters both old and new, including Delara Auzenne. Besides the more intimate exploration of Jensen’s character, Eidos also promises that the expansion will provide players with more insight into the wider lore of the Deus Ex universe, which takes place in a hostile, high-security prison.
It seems that Jensen was caught and incarcerated along with the rest of his fellow augmented humans prior to the events of Mankind Divided, his mission being to “track down and retrieve sensitive information from a fellow undercover agent” which, if successful, will help to quell the flames of terror burning across the globe. That is, of course, assuming Jensen can “confront a darker side to his role” before the sun rises on a new day.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launched in August last year, and while it didn’t garner the same kind of critical acclaim as its predecessor, the follow-up to Human Revolution is still an absolute blast to play, especially if you’re a fan of cyberpunk. The genre has been sorely underrepresented in recent years, but with Detroit: Become Human and CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk: 2077 on the horizon, that could well be about to change. Expect more details on both of those to be made public at this year’s E3.
