On the eve of launch, Square Enix and developer Eidos Montreal have premiered the über-stylish launch trailer for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, thrusting viewers into the midst of a dark and warped future.
Set two years after the events of Human Revolution, Eidos’ long-awaited sequel – originally slated for a February launch – once again chronicles the story of Adam Jensen, a mechanically augmented superhuman capable of some truly eye-popping abilities. Think Batman, on steroids.
As tensions between humans and the augmented approach boiling point, Mankind Divided is said to be rooted in a future – the year 2029, specifically – where the “oppression of the mechanically augmented has created a climate of fear and resentment, resulting in an escalation of crime and acts of terror. Amid all the chaos, Adam Jensen goes after the Illuminati — the men and women responsible for tearing the world apart.”
Boasting state-of-the-art weaponry and a near-unrelenting drive to expose that worldwide conspiracy, Jensen certainly makes for an interesting protagonist. But can the imminent sequel improve on the combat system that split audiences in 2011?
You can’t kill progress, and come Tuesday, Adam Jensen will be stepping foot into the year 2029 when Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launches for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on August 23.
