Developer of Skylanders and next year’s Crash Bandicoot remasters – Vicarious Visions – has confirmed it’s partnering with Destiny developer Bungie to “further expand” the sci-fi shooter’s universe. In an image posted on the studio’s Facebook page depicting the game’s spherical Traveler, a message overlaid on top of it reads: “Vicarious Visions is excited to announce that we are partnering with Bungie to further expand the Award-Winning Destiny Universe.”
Vicarious is the second such third-party to join Bungie’s efforts in ensuring the continued success of Destiny, with Transformers: Fall of Cybertron developer High Moon Studios confirming its involvement last year – having reportedly contributed to both The Taken King and Rise of Iron expansions. However, we imagine the bolstered workforce is largely down to the huge amount of manpower required for next year’s Destiny 2.
Publisher Activision has yet to officially announce the sequel, but did make it known recently that the follow-up is still on track to meet a 2017 launch window. With Bungie all too aware of fan criticism that the original game has suffered from several extended periods of content drought in the past, it appears that the answer has been found externally rather than from within its own ranks.
As for the immediate future though, December 13 will see the return of the Sparrow Racing League event to Destiny, as well as several Christmas themed activities, as part of an update dubbed The Dawning.
