1) Focus On The Story
Despite what some had feared prior to its release, Bungie hasn’t decided to take the easy route and do a cut-and-paste job with Destiny 2. Make no mistake, veterans of the first game will find a lot of similarities to the first outing in terms of loot progression and endgame activities, but on the whole, the second part of Bungie’s ten-year journey distances itself enough from the first to justify sequel status.
More than anything else, the fresh start has allowed Bungie to construct a narrative with meaningful pacing and progression, rather than the vapid, disjointed mess of the first, which was born out of hasty rewrites and poorly-made decisions. This time around, there’s a clearly defined villain and end goal to be achieved, and while I’ve yet to reach the end of the ride, everything I’ve witnessed so far is a marked improvement over Destiny‘s vanilla campaign.
Tremendous news indeed, considering that it’s this very same component which bars entry to many of the shooter’s other attractions. I’m not suggesting you skip every cutscene and go from point A to B in as an efficient manner as possible, but it’s a good idea to only do side activities as and when you need an extra level or two to continue on your way.
Strikes (including the Nightfall), Sparrows and the new Flashpoints feature are all inaccessible until you’ve made considerable progress in the campaign, as too, will be Destiny 2‘s first Raid, which is scheduled to drop a week after launch. By all means, take a detour or two, just be quick about it, eh?
