6) Save Your Glimmer
The most widespread and used currency of Destiny‘s universe, the little blue cubes of programmable matter served several purposes in the original Destiny, ranging from the practically useless to extremely valuable. Guardians that have been combating the Darkness since Year 1 will distinctly remember that the resource served little purpose in the shooter’s early days, an issue that Bungie would eventually proceed to rectify with subsequent patches and content updates, most notably with The Taken King.
Like the original, though, Destiny 2 locks most of its endgame gear behind other, rarer currencies – Legendary Shards, Bright Dust, Gunsmith Materials, etc. – leaving Glimmer to serve much the same role as it did in Destiny‘s Year Three. Prior to reaching Destiny 2‘s vanilla level cap of 20, it largely serves the singular purpose of allowing players to purchase Common gear from various NPC vendors scattered throughout the solar system, and while it may seem tempting to sink a whole bunch of the stuff on some armor or weapon upgrades, you’re best off holding onto the hard-earned currency until you hit endgame.
There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, the cap on how much Glimmer you’re able to hold on your person has been raised considerably for the sequel, from 25,000 to 100,000, eliminating the need to spend for the sake of it, and secondly, with the relative speed in which leveling gear is obtained, either as random drops or quest rewards, buying it directly is borderline redundant.
Put simply, we should all make uncle Scrooge proud and become penny-pinching warriors.
