Team Ninja has announced that Dead or Alive 5 Plus is currently scheduled to launch for the PlayStation Vita on March 20, 2013 in Japan and two days later on March 22nd in the UK. A release date for North America was not announced, however, the Japan and UK dates seem to indicate that the fighter will meet its planned worldwide “March 2013” release window.
According to a Famitsu report, the announcement was made by the game’s producer Yosuke Hayashi at a Tecmo Koei official tournament in Tokyo this past weekend. Hayashi also told attendees at the event that Team Ninja had not originally planned to port Dead or Alive 5 to the Vita but changed their mind after receiving fan requests for a handheld version of the popular fighting game.
Dead or Alive 5 Plus is “still in the development phase” but already runs at “almost” 60 frames per second, according to Hayashi. The producer added, “We do not want the Vita port be seen by players as being inferior to the console versions, so we want to keep the game’s high-quality visuals and have it run silky smooth.”
Last week we learned that the PlayStation Vita port will contain several new features, including an optional first-person mode and simplified touchscreen controls. Outside of those small bits of information we really don’t know what else to expect from DOA 5 Plus — including whether or not the game will contain any or all of Dead or Alive 5‘s downloadable content. With the game’s Japanese release date closing in fast, it should not be too much longer before Tecmo Koei is ready to officially show off some assets for the fighter and give it a full reveal.
We will keep an eye out for any further details surrounding the North American release date for Dead or Alive 5 Plus and let you know as soon as anything is announced.
