Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, a spruced up version of the original announced by THQ Nordic earlier this year, will include 4K support by way of Sony’s PS4 Pro, the studio has announced. Originally released back in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the hack and slash title follows the trials and tribulations of War – the first Horseman of the Apocalypse.
Accused of inciting a war of, quite literally, Biblical proportions, War sets out on a quest of “vengeance and vindication” across a post-apocalyptic Earth, all the while being hunted by both angels and demons.
While PS4 Pro owners get the added benefit of being able to play Darksiders in 4K, there’s a range of improvements being made to the re-release on all platforms, including native 1080p support, a doubling of texture resolutions and rendering enhancements. Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions will run at 60fps, with the Wii U limited to 30.
Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is due to release on Xbox One and PlaytStation 4 on November 22 and PC on November 29. No release date has been set for the Wii U version.
A sequel to the original – Darksiders II – was released in 2012 by THQ shortly before the studio closed its doors. Nordic Games later acquired the rights to the series, rebranding itself as THQ Nordic.
