Sony has announced that PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to grab a free digital copy of the original Darksiders from the Instant Game Collection when the PlayStation Store updates tomorrow.
Vigil Games’ 2010 action adventure game has players take control of War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as he rides through what is left of New York in an effort to clear his name and reset the balance of power in the struggle between Heaven and Hell. Darksiders‘ gameplay is often described as a mix of God of War and The Legend of Zelda, which is not all that far from the mark.
In addition to the Instant Game Collection update, PlayStation Plus members will also be able to grab a 50% discount on Stardrone Extreme for the Vita, making the unique space-flight title a mere $2.
Outside of the free and discounted games, the PlayStation Store has also been updated today to version 1.02. This update is reported to have greatly speed up the insanely long load times that have plagued the PS Store since it was revamped last November.
Unfortunately, I can not personally confirm that the 1.02 update has fixed the PS Store’s horrid load times. I did notice the update when logging onto the old PS3 this morning, however, there was no time to check it out as I was on an extremely time sensitive mission to beat two of Sound Shapes‘ Death Mode levels before reporting in to the WGTC field office.
Sadly, today’s PlayStation Store patch did not bring with it the web browser version of the store that was promised for release in North America sometime later this month. Assuming Sony launches it the same way they did in Europe, it will hit in the middle of the night with little to no warning.
We will keep an eye out for any announcement regarding the launch of the browser version of the PlayStation Store — on the off chance that Sony decides to promote it — and let you know as soon as anything turns up.
