A new snippet of gameplay for the final slice of Dark Souls III DLC has been released by Bandai Namco today, revealing some of the locations players will be paying a visit to come March. Announced last month, The Ringed City looks set to take place in the crumbling, surreal township surrounding the Kiln of the First Flame that the Unkindled travels to at the climax of Dark Souls III‘s story, but you certainly won’t be alone while attempting to traverse its uneven foundations.
Several new enemy types can be seen in the footage, including the likes of nightmarish spirits that wail as they race towards the player. Maybe it’s just me, but they certainly look eerily familiar in appearance to the Humanity Sprites seen in the original Dark Souls‘ Artorias of the Abyss expansion. More physical threats include an enemy that has a distinct air of the angelic about it, boasting golden wings and the ability to expel shimmering projectiles at an alarming rate and an athletic soldier that bears a weeping Darksign on its chest.
It doesn’t come as a surprise that From Software has come up with such interesting enemy and environmental designs for its concluding chapter to Dark Souls III, given its past creations, but I’m no less impressed because of it.
Previous DLC Ashes of Ariandel may have been a little on the petite side when compared with From’s other, more expansive, DLC offerings, but it was fun while it lasted. Let’s hope that The Ringed City is a fitting end to a series that may never get another sequel.
