Following multiple early reveals and premature announcements yesterday, Dark Souls III publisher Bandai Namco has officially unveiled the rock-hard RPG’s first slice of DLC with a gameplay trailer. Ashes of Ariandel releases for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on October 25, and introduces a brand new area to explore as well as new weapons, armor and magic for players to discover, says Namco.
Return to the world of Dark Souls 3 and uncover a terrible secret that lies within an unnamed frozen land. Players will find themselves steeped in a brand new environment filled with terrifying new enemies, challenges, and exciting lore to fill out the overarching Dark Souls 3 storyline.
The frostbitten land of Ariandel hides an “evil within,” and it’s the Ashen One’s duty to “uncover the mystery of what has caused the land to become defiled,” so says the press release. But could series fans have been to this forsaken land before?
You can give the trailer above a good look and decide for yourselves, but we’re seeing more than just a few similarities with the original Dark Souls’ Painted World of Ariamis, which housed all sorts of grotesque abominations.
We’ll be able to uncover the truth for ourselves come October.
