A month after teasing something great for April’s celebratory Games with Gold line-up, Microsoft has stumbled a bit, by announcing a decent but unspectacular list of freebies.
The first month of spring will offer two Xbox One games at no cost whatsoever, along with four different Xbox 360 titles. There are some standouts, for sure, but nothing that really lives up to the hype that the formerly Bill Gates-led computer giant created.
For the entirety of April, Xbox One users will be able to download both Pool Nation FX and Ubisoft’s fantastic Child of Light without paying a dime. And, though the latter gem is a nice addition for sure, it’s not the retail game that many were hoping for. Still, if you’ve yet to play it, it’s an absolute must that you do.
Going further, those who still game on Xbox 360 will be gifted with Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, Gears of War: Judgment, Terraria and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. For the most part, there’s little to really complain about there, but last-gen isn’t where everyone’s hope lay, nor is it where my disappointment comes from. Three of the four Xbox 360 games are very popular and above-average titles, whereas the other (Army of Two) happens to be a bit of a dud.
The two Xbox One titles will be free for the entire month of April, whereas the Xbox 360 games will be split into pairs. Gears of War: Judgement and Terraria will kick things off, by being free from April 1st to 15th, while Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will close out the month, as freebies from April 16th-31st.
