As we found out recently, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt will indeed feature two playable protagonists and will, for the first time in the celebrated RPG series, allow players to control someone other than Geralt of Rivia as they venture through CD Projekt Red’s fantastical realm. And today, the Polish dev unveiled that that second persona will be Ciri — a white-haired elf who has been described as a “living weapon.”
Here’s the official description of the threequel’s new addition, as provided by the studio.
“A descendant in a long-lost Elven-blood lineage, Ciri plays an important role in the Witcher lore – a powerful, living weapon capable of both healing and destroying the world she inhabits,” reads developer CD Projekt RED’s official description. “As Ciri is pursued by the Wild Hunt, a cavalcade of ghastly riders capable of unspeakable destruction, as well as the mighty Empire of Nilfgaard, it’s down to Geralt to explore The Witcher 3’s vast, open world to find her before anyone else does.”
Given that the title boasts close to 100 hours of gameplay, it’s no wonder that CD Projekt Red opted to include another playable character. Still, even though Ciri will “unlock quite a few narrative possibilities for the team,” Geralt is still very much the lead and the core story of Wild Hunt will still orbit around his journey as it nears its mighty conclusion.
Originally due to arrive in February, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt will now make its debut on May 19, 2015 as CD Projekt Red push to make the RPG threequel the best it can possibly be. For more on the newly-unveiled Ciri, you can check out some of the studio’s concept art in the gallery below.
