If you’ve been to Raccoon City as much as we have during your lifetime, then you surely know that there’s enough interesting trivia pertaining to Capcom’s survival horror franchise to fill a book – especially when it comes to its two most celebrated entries, those being Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. For now, though, let’s focus on the latter as a ton of new details regarding the remake’s development process have recently surfaced.

If you’ve played both the 1998 original and the 2019 overhaul, then you’re aware of how it’s the same basic story and setting but with a few drastic differences. And if some of Capcom’s earlier ideas for the project had materialized, it could’ve been even more different.

Already we’ve head that the developer considered a first-person mode and even some interesting alternate designs for Mr.X. And now, we’re learning of some unused enemies that could’ve made their way into Resident Evil 2. From what we understand, these new foes would have been known as the Condemned and would’ve appeared in the Orphanage. Furthermore, they were supposed to act as a new jump scare but unfortunately – or maybe fortunately – never got past the design stage.

It’s always interesting to learn what could’ve been, but all things considered, Resident Evil 2 turned out just fine the way it is. Indeed, Capcom’s latest outing in the franchise has been a smash hit with fans and critics alike and even now, over a month after its release, gamers are still having a ton of fun with it.

That’s led a lot of people to cry out for a Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake, something which the developer is apparently considering – along with Resident Evil 8, which is said to be in the earliest stages of development. But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves just yet, as for now, there’s plenty of horror goodness in Resident Evil 2 to keep us occupied for a while.
