Capcom UK’s senior marketing director Stuart Turner has taken to Twitter to reassure fans that the Resident Evil 2 Remake is being done from “the ground up,” rather than a remaster job that both the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0 have and will receive, respectively.

After noticing that fans of the game were starting to show concern over one of the companies recent investor reports, that labelled the remake as a “remastered version of Resident Evil 2,” Turner quickly moved to clarify:

Seems to be a few people picking up a mistranslation in our own investor report. RE2 will be a full from the ground up remake NOT a remaster.

The original version of Resident Evil 2 is considered by many fans to be one of the – if not the – best entries in the franchise, with petitions and fan-made remakes having been attempted to bring the game into the 21st century.

Capcom have yet to announce a release date for the title, but you can read the original announcement below.

We’re pleased to confirm that Resident Evil 2 has been approved for development. As the title is only just starting its development cycle we unfortunately don’t have any additional information or assets to share at this time. However, for now we want our fans to know that we appreciate all the feedback and support we’ve received on this title. We’re looking forward to delivering this highly anticipated Resident Evil experience that fans have been waiting for.
