Free-to-play RPG Deep Down is very much alive and kicking despite months of silence, according to Capcom.

The Japanese publisher touched upon the game’s prolonged development in a recent interview with 4Gamer (translated by Siliconera), revealing that the PS4 exclusive has undergone some form of change since it was last seen during Tokyo Game Show back in September.

Here’s what Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono had to say on the matter:

“It looks like Deep Down will take just a little longer,” Ono said. “It also looks like some people are starting to ask ‘did the development come to a halt?’ but it’s nothing like that. We’re thinking about showing something that looks completely different from what previously shown, although it might be a while from now.”

It’s interesting to note that despite its show-stopping reveal back in 2013, Deep Down has been the subject of change. Of course, going off of Ono’s comments, it appears as though what Capcom had built beyond the vertical slice simply wasn’t up to snuff.

“The ideas we have for the game are much larger now compared to when we first announced it,” he revealed. “Rather, the ideas we had before might not have been good enough. When it comes to the service of online games, it’s a long-term challenge, so we must make sure to do the necessary parts correctly at the launch of the service, otherwise it’d be a shame to have an amusing game and not have any players stick around.”

This report comes a mere week after the studio allayed any existing fears that the game had been cancelled altogether. Thankfully, that isn’t the case, and Deep Down remains in development alongside Dragon’s Dogma Online at Capcom Online Games — though it appears as though the latter online-centric RPG is receiving the most attention out of the pair.
