Have you been waiting patiently for Capcom to lift the lid on Resident Evil 7? Unfortunately, you may be waiting for a good while longer to get any news on the game, according to the series producer, Masachika Kawata.
Speaking in a special celebratory issue of Dengeki Playstation, Kawata acknowledged that fans have been waiting patiently for news on the next main entry in the survival horror series, and also recognized concerns fans have had over it losing its original focus on horror – especially in the various spinoff titles like Operation: Raccoon City:
Since there’s been more spinoff titles, I can see how it can be perceived in such a way. And of course I believe that we should produce titles that bring out the horror. I’m thinking about it and also preparing for it.
When prodded for news on Resident Evil 7, Kawata simply said that “We’re [Capcom] currently not at a state to talk about it… but please stay tuned.”
That’s probably not what you want to hear, but considering the less-than-great reception that Resident Evil 6 received, it might be a good idea for Capcom to spend as much time as possible outlining what they want to do with Resident Evil 7, unlike the disjointed parts that made up its predecessor.
In the same issue, Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi was pressed about possible Devil May Cry or single-player sequels to Dragon’s Dogma, but yeah, you guessed it; the developer currently has “no plans” to do either.
