Call of Duty: World at War is now available via the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility service, Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb has announced via Twitter. Released back in 2008 for the last generation of consoles, World at War marks the last time either Infinity Ward or Treyarch dabbled in portraying the historic Second World War, having moved into fictional or more modern territory in the years since with the likes of Black Ops 3 and this year’s upcoming Infinite Warfare.

The news follows Microsoft’s earlier confirmation that Call of Duty 3 had joined the service, and with the list seemingly growing with each passing day, Hryb also confirmed that all backwards compatible entries in the pedigree shooter franchise can now be purchased directly on your Xbox One.
The applicable titles are:
- Call of Duty 2
- Call of Duty 3
- Call of Duty: World at War
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
Call of Duty: World at War is fondly remembered for, among other things, introducing the now-mandatory Zombies Mode feature, having been adapted and rejigged over the years into a fully fledged campaign of its own, substituting the undead Nazi hordes for other horrifying incarnations. Despite many fans having expressed their disappointment with this year’s iteration, it appears as if Activision is intent on continuing down the series’ current thematic path.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare hits Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on November 4.
