Update: Activision has released another video, as well as an infographic, both of which focus in on the world’s shift towards employing private military corporations. By doing so, the company has shed more light on Advanced Warfare’s storyline, which will be set in a world where a corporation exists as the largest military presence.
Although a countdown seemed to suggest that the next, Sledgehammer-developed Call of Duty game wouldn’t be revealed until Sunday morning, Activision has decided not to wait that long. In fact, just hours after news broke about the upcoming reveal, and rumours began to swirl surrounding exactly what the next iteration in the venerable first-person shooter franchise could be, the publisher released an explosive and foreboding trailer to complement the game’s lone screenshot and its Kevin Spacey-focused teaser.
What we now know is this: The next Call of Duty game will, in fact, be titled Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, like yesterday’s rumours had suggested. On top of that, it’s being developed from the ground up for Xbox One and PS4, and carries a release date of November 4, 2014. As such, the series’ many fans can look forward to shooting digital bullets at their friends just as the cold weather really starts to set in on this part of the globe.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare — which has a title that will surely lead to mix-ups during the holiday shopping season, due to its similarities to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare — will seemingly feature technologically advanced soldiers, who have the ability to leap across lengthy distances and utilize climbing skills that eclipse those of a regular human being. That is, in addition to its badass-looking future tech. Oh, and there’s also Kevin Spacey, who, from the sounds of things, will portray the game’s democracy-hating bad guy.
Stay tuned for more information pertaining to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare as it develops. For now, though, let us know what your thoughts are. We’re interested in finding out if our readers still care about the franchise, given how many games bearing its name have already been released.
