Capitalizing on the rapturous reception of its E3 2015 showcase, Microsoft is beginning to double down on its strategy to crank up the Xbox One install base ahead of what is shaping up to be a “huge” holiday season.
And so, beginning Sunday, June 21, a limited promotion will ensure that anyone who purchases an Xbox One – be it the standard 500GB or the new-fangled 1TB model – will be entitled to a free disc-based game to put their new purchase to good use. Currently limited to the United States, the deal will be hosted by participating retailers and run through until June 27.
[zerggaming]As the picture above indicates, would-be Xbox One owners can select from a string of blockbuster titles such as The Witcher III: Wild Hunt and The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. One thing worth nothing is that this promotion doesn’t apply to software available for pre-order, and the free game of your choosing must already be out in the market. We’d recommend consulting with your local retailer about the deal before committing to the admittedly enticing purchase.
Hot on the heels of the backwards compatibility reversal, Microsoft is certainly putting all hands to the pump to ensure its share on the community mindshare coming out of E3 2015. Couple this with the upcoming user interface overhaul and new Xbox One controller and you have a console that is almost unrecognizable in comparison to what was originally unveiled more than two years ago. It’s a comeback that will benefit everyone in the long run, and we’re excited to see how this holiday season pans out.
