Dark Souls III may have offered up more of the franchise’s dark and eldritch horrors this year, but some people couldn’t quite help but feel like it paled in comparison to 2015’s critically acclaimed Bloodborne. For fans of that PS4-exclusive Souls spinoff, there’s some great news: the previously Japan-exclusive Official Artworks book is not only coming West, but it’s now available for pre-order on Amazon.
Just looking at the art direction of From Software’s gothic world, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Bloodborne is a Japanese RPG; in a move that’s perhaps endeared the Souls series to Western audiences, the game trades in the usual spiky-haired anime characters and colorful landscapes for dark and dreary environments filled with horrifying Lovecraftian nightmares. The Official Artworks book naturally offers a look at the artists’ work — from concept to reality — on these visions of hell, and should serve as a fascinating look behind the scenes for anyone who spent time in Yharnam.
The book’s price is $38.06 US on Amazon, down from a list price of $44.99, and has already shot to the #1 New Release spot in Amazon’s Art History book list. It’s unknown how many copies will be available to Western fans, so as always, folks who want to get their hands on a copy should likely pre-order soon.
