The rumors regarding Diablo III making its way to consoles circulated the ‘net for quite a while, but never quite came to fruition. Blizzard has openly hired people for their console development team, and has claimed to be “exploring” and “investigating” console Diablo projects multiple times, even going as far as claiming that a console controller would be perfectly suited for that type of gameplay. However, the company had refrained from commenting…until now.
Diablo III director, Jay Wilson, finally broke the silence this morning when talking to Gamasutra:
“Yeah. We haven’t officially announced it, because we’re not ‘experimenting, we tell people that basically we’re experimenting, because it helps us hire people. The better people we hire, the better chance we have to actually make it.” “That’s why we haven’t kept it super secret, but we also haven’t confirmed it, because we’re not sure yet whether we think it will work, and whether we think we have the resources to do it.”
So, Blizzard isn’t dead set on a console version of Diablo III, but they’re bringing in people to try out a few ideas, in order to see if it will work? That sounds suspiciously like experimenting to me.
