Before the game even launched, Blizzard Entertainment promised us that there would be serious action taken against cheaters in Overwatch. And sure enough, they’ve made good on their word by banning over 1500 people just over a week after the game hit store shelves.
The company made the announcement on their Chinese customer support forum, where they said that those who’ve been cheating or hacking have been punished by way of permanent ban. They even listed the Battle.net names of those who had been banned. Harsh, but it’s not like they didn’t warn people, right?
Of course, this most recent ban only represents one of many, as Blizzard is acting vigilantly to take out cheaters, and so far, they seem to be doing an alright job. Word on the internet is that they’re moving quick and hitting hard against hackers, which is obviously great news for the rest of us who are playing the game fairly and as it was intended to be played.
With a user base of over 7 million people, it’s safe to say that Overwatch is clearly a huge success for the company, and we have no doubt that they’ll continue to deal with cheaters over the months to come to ensure a fair and level playing field, and to help turn the game into an upcoming eSport.
