Bethesda has announced that the project they have been teasing all week with Vine videos of spinning records is an upcoming survival horror game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, titled The Evil Within. The game is currently scheduled to launch sometime in 2014 on the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and “next generation consoles” — this does not appear to include Nintendo’s Wii U.
The Evil Within is being developed by Zenimax Media’s Tango Gameworks studio, and it is the same game that was first announced back in April 2012 under the codename Zwei. At the time Shinji Mikami described it as “a true survival horror game” where players will be forced to “confront and overcome fear.” As part of today’s announcement Mikami promised that the game will be “perfect blend of horror and action.”
Bethesda did not provide any story or gameplay details in the press release announcing The Evil Within, however, the publisher did release a live-action debut trailer to give us a feel for the game’s extremely disturbing atmosphere.
We will let you know as soon as Bethesda reveals additional details about The Evil Within. In the meantime, make sure to check out the game’s debut trailer below — assuming it is not too close to your bedtime.
