1) Overwatch
There’s no denying that Overwatch has been a phenomenon since its release back in May. And certainly, the game’s player count speaks for itself, with Blizzard recently announcing that it has now exceeded 20 million. That’s absolutely mad, but it’s easy to see to see what all the fuss is about.
Overwatch is the breath of fresh air that multiplayer shooters needed; the combination of innovation and sound game design that the genre has been lacking. And with Overwatch, Blizzard has once again demonstrated that they’re among the most capable developers in the industry; creating a game that brilliantly fuses FPS gameplay with MOBA traits.
Overwatch does away with heavy-handed war simulation, replacing it with a colorful cast of characters who facilitate MOBA style gameplay loop, which is both super rewarding and endearing. No two of the game’s characters feel alike, with even those of the same class playing differently, meaning that team compositions never descend into sameness. Each character’s special abilities can be used in creative ways that differ depending on which map you’re playing, and the game does a brilliant job of encouraging players to experiment and experience its different offerings.
For sure, Overwatch is an incredible achievement in multiplayer shooter design. And when you’re in the thick of things, there are few games that feel as rewarding and entertaining. Overwatch is fun, chaotic and slick, with a point of different from other shooters. In a year where competition among FPS titles has been fierce, Overwatch emerges as the most unique and entertaining shooter. This is a must play title for all gaming enthusiasts and we’d encourage everyone to jump in and experience what is our pick as the greatest FPS of 2016.
