Earlier this month it was reported that Call Of Duty: Ghosts was locked in at running 720p on the Xbox One. At the time, it seemed like this may have been an isolated issue, but now rumors are swirling that another high-profile Xbox One title will also be running at sub-1080p resolution.
On an episode of the Annoyed Gamer video series on GameTrailers, journalist Marcus Beer talked about how the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag looked different. The Xbox One version was described as looking “fuzzier and strained,” with the PS4 version looking “sharper and crisper.”
Additionally, former IGN editor Jeremy Conrad has also revealed that he heard similar rumors of Black Flag running at a lower resolution on the Xbox One. Conrad sent out a Tweet that read “Sounds like AC4 is sub-1080p on Xbox One as well,” though he followed that up with another one saying “AC4 resolution isn’t confirmed, btw. Just a rumor.”
Obviously, if you are getting ready to purchase an Xbox One, this is not the type of news that you want to hear. It’s beginning to look like the PlayStation 4 is a more powerful machine, or at the very least, developers have gotten the hang of developing for the system quicker than they have for the Xbox One.
Regardless, this resolution issue appears to be more of a problem than originally speculated and it will be interesting to see which other games run at sub-1080p on Microsoft’s new console.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is available now for current-gen consoles, but will launch with the Xbox One on November 22nd.
