A hidden page on Ubisoft’s official Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag website has revealed that the next game in the Templar-stabbing franchise will launch on October 29, 2013, for current and next generation consoles.
The website DarkZero discovered the not-so-hidden page early today by adding a “v” onto the end of the url for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag world premiere trailer website — http://assassinscreed.us.ubi.com/announce/#
That method of reaching the hidden page no longer works, as the “v” url now redirects visitors back to the main page. However, DarkZero managed to grab a few screenshots before Ubisoft caught wind of the url-trickery. From the screen grab above, we know that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will launch on “October 29th” for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, and “next-gen consoles”. While not specifically stated, this we are assuming this means the PlayStation 4 and unannounced Xbox 720/Durango.
In addition to release date and next-gen console confirmation, one piece of leaked artwork for Black Flag has been discovered. The image (posted below) doesn’t reveal too much about the upcoming game, however, it clearly re-confirms the game’s pirate-theme.
We are still waiting to hear any official word from Ubisoft on exactly how Black Flag will tie into the Assassin’s Creed universe, however, several recent rumors have suggested that it will be a prequel to Assassin’s Creed III that takes place in 1715. The new game is said to feature Edward Kenway (father of ACIII‘s Haytham Kenway) as the main protagonist. Edward is a known “Privateer, Assassin and occasional pirate,” who operates out of the following Caribbean islands; Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas. The island setting, appears to indicate that the game will make extensive use of the naval battles from ACIII — which is just fine by us.
