Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends has had an incredible rise in popularity since its release back at the start of February. It didn’t take very long at all for the game to bust through the one million mark, then ten million and shortly after that, Respawn announced that a whopping twenty-five million people had turned up to see what all the fuss is about.
But it doesn’t end there, as we learned just this morning that the player count has now hit an astonishing 50 million. Frankly, it’s almost unbelievable how quickly Apex is growing and as more and more time passes, we’re beginning to see some very skilled players emerge. Just take streamer and former Overwatch League Pro Mendokusaii, for instance.
Down in the video below, you’ll see that he managed to set a world record for most solo kills, finishing the match with an impressive 36. His two teammates left shortly after they were eliminated but that didn’t stop him, as Mendokusaii took out his enemies using a combination of the Wingman and the R-99.
Some have pointed out that without any teammates, there was no one to steal his kills, and that’s definitely true. But on the other hand, you could also argue that having teammates may have even led him to more eliminations, as they could have aided him in helping to deal damage to opponents or used their character’s abilities to give him a hand.
In any case, it probably won’t be long before this current record is broken, especially with how much time people seem to be sinking into the game. For now, though, Mendokusaii holds the crown and let’s just say if you find yourself in a match of Apex Legends with him, you’d better hope he’s on your team.
