No online multiplayer game is immune to hackers and cheats.
From Team Fortress to Quake, World of Warcraft to Call of Duty, there will always be players who exploit loopholes and in-game technicalities in order to gain an unfair advantage over their rivals. And Apex Legends is no different.
Respawn’s frenzied shooter is undoubtedly the video game of the moment – more so than even Fortnite, which was once the crown jewel of Twitch– though Apex is clearly not without its faults. Setting aside the flawed in-game economy for the time being, and we now have evidence to suggest that a number of players are beginning to exploit a never-before-seen glitch that allows them to melee at lightning speed.
The results? Said player is able to pin down his opponents before they’re given a chance to react. Cue the rage quit…
And it turns out there’s a method to the madness. Per Reddit, players must have a Legend equipped with an Ultimate Ability – one that can be canceled as soon as it’s activated. Bloodhound’s Beast of Hunt and Lifeline’s Care Package are examples of such traits, so once the Ultimate Ability is fully charged, players need only spam the melee and cancel buttons in order to unleash a flurry of attacks – much to the chagrin of their opponent(s).
Respawn likely won’t take long to patch this exploit, so enjoy it – or endure it, if you’ve been on the receiving end – while you still can. The studio’s next port of call will be the April Fools’ Day content drop, what with reports of a special surprise in store for Apex Legends players. But what could it be? Time will tell.
