UPDATE: In light of today’s news, Activision has released an official statement to Eurogamer regarding the delay, though it remains unclear whether the game will see the light of day on Xbox One.

“We are working with Microsoft in an effort to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game on Xbox One. Currently, the game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and the PC on 2nd May, 2014 as previously announced.”

Original Story…

Despite being only two weeks out from its planned release, Activision has delayed the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Xbox One indefinitely.

Initially, the postponement was picked up by GamersHonestTruth, who spotted that the movie tie-in had been removed on Australian retailer EB Games’ website after they begun cancelling pre-orders for the game. Activision has since confirmed this rescheduling and, in a statement provided to MCV, the company outlined the reasoning for the delay:

“We want to inform you that we are revising our release plans for [The Amazing Spider-Man 2] on Xbox One. When and whether ASM2 is released on Xbox One is TBD.”

Prior to this confirmation, eagle-eyed NeoGAF users discovered that Activision had indeed removed all mention of the Xbox One version from the game’s official website. In light of this, other retailers have adjusted the release date of the developer’s third-person action title across their digital shelves, including Amazon UK and GameStop.

Unfortunately, not much is known about the specifics of the delay at this time, nor why it has befallen the Xbox One edition in particular. Nevertheless, it’s understood The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will still launch across PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, PC, 3DS and yes, even Wii U on April 29th (May 2nd in the UK).

At this stage, the fate of Activision’s superhero sequel is still very much uncertain on Microsoft’s flagship platform, but we’ll be sure to update you on the status of the Xbox One version as news appears.
