Confirming a recent trademark, Namco Bandai announced this morning that Ace Combat Infinity — the next installment in the popular Ace Combat franchise — will be released on September 25th, 2013 as a download-only PlayStation 3 exclusive.
Outside of the launch information, Namco Bandai has not confirmed any other details about the upcoming game, however, they did provide a short teaser trailer along with today’s announcement.
The trailer (embedded below) opens with the “That day our sky fell, the heavens split to create new skies” line from the teaser website, before cutting to quick shots of jet fighters (from what I can tell, all of the planes appear to be various model Russian MiG and/or Sukhoi fighters). The teaser also indicates that a large meteor has impacted the Earth, but it is unknown if this will play a part in the game’s story.
It is also worth noting that the teaser website that Namco Bandai’s opened up last week is not for Ace Combat Infinity. We do not yet know what that site is for, however, it has been updated to indicate that the game will be for the Nintendo 3DS.
We will keep an eye out for any additional information about Ace Combat Infinity — and the mysterious 3DS title — and let you know as soon as anything pops up. In the meantime, make sure to check out both the teaser trailer and our gallery of screenshots taken from the video down below.
