505 games has announced that they will be bringing a brand new zombie infested action-adventure IP, How to Survive, to Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network and Steam.
How to Survive may be treading familiar ground by shuffling through another zombie apocalypse but it will be interesting to see how a top down perspective influences the overall feel of the title. Shifting the game’s focus on survival may allow it to overcome feeling like a mere clone of games such as Zombie Apocalypse and Dead Nation. If the team at EKO Studios can execute on fusing the top down perspective with true survival elements then they may have a progression on the genre, rather than a regurgitation of the formula.
Check out a full description of the game pulled from the press release below:
“Featuring a robust crafting system, unique survival guide and a host of playable characters, How to Survive strands players on a remote archipelago off the coast of Colombia in the aftermath of an unexplained accident … but you’re not alone. In order to survive, you must fulfill the most basic of needs – seeking out food, water and shelter, as well as crafting dozens of tools and weapons from fishing rods to Molotov cocktails. Players can also team up with other survivors in local and online multiplayer story and challenge modes to take on a growing array of the infected.”
