8) The Order: 1886
Here’s a game that understood the power of current-gen tech perfectly. In fact, The Order was Sony’s pin-up boy and the console giant took great pleasure showing off this stunningly beautiful IP. So when The Order landed in store shelves in February 2015, we were glad to see it was just as beautiful as advertised. The problem? It was little else.
A missed opportunity of the nth degree, 1886 proved to be nothing more than a flashy tech demo that let you walk around glamorous window dressing, partake in functional firefights and watch (rather than interact with) endless cutscenes. The developers seemed to be so in thrall with their engine that they’d prefer you didn’t interfere. As a result, this was a walking simulator as much as a third-person shooter.
