Prior to tonight’s event, there was some speculation that BTS member, Jimin will be attending this year’s Met Gala in New York City. Unfortunately, that turned out to not be the case and the ARMY isn’t happy.

Jimin’s name was added to a list of names that are said to be invited to this year’s fashion event. One source was the South Korean publisher, Eyes Magazine. So it’s no surprise that fans waited for hours just to see a glimpse of the K-pop star’s take on this year’s theme, which was  “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”. Unfortunately, after hours of waiting, the star never appeared.

Speculation grew leading up to the event after it was reported by Elle that both he and Suga were in the area leading up to the event and that the two would be the first BTS members to debut in the Met Gala. Unfortunately, thanks to the celebrities’ recent social media posts, it seems that the two K-pop idols attended other events, such as the reopening of Tiffany & Co.’s Fifth Avenue store.

There were two types of reactions after fans realized that the K-pop star wasn’t attending. One turned his absence into a giant joke, claiming that Jimin might have forgotten that he was supposed to attend or that he was just chilling in his hotel room, not realizing that the event unfolded.

On the other hand, there was outrage. Fans accused reporters, journalists, and the Met Gala organizers/press team of using the K-pop star’s name for clicks. It’s no surprise that they’re upset since people were hyping up the K-pop idol’s Met Gala debut. Not to mention, his name trended on Twitter throughout the red-carpet event due to the amount of hype leading up to his appearance.

As of writing, no member of BTS has ever attended the Met Gala, and that will be the case for a while due to all seven members taking part in their mandatory military duties in South Korea. But if you want your K-pop fix at this year’s event, BLACKPINK’s Jennie made her debut on Monday night, following Rosé’s appearance in 2021.
