Although it may ultimately fall short of The Force Awaken’s final box office gross, we can probably all agree that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a resounding financial success and instilled confidence in moviegoers when it came to the quality of the franchise’s spinoffs.
As such, it comes as a most welcome surprise that Marvel has just announced that Rogue One will be the subject of a six-issue adaptation that comes to us by way of an incredible creative team in writer Jody Houser (Max Ride) and artist Emilio Laiso (Star Wars Annual).
Houser herself had this to say to Marvel.com about the new comic:
“[Director] Gareth Edwards and Lucasfilm had a number of ideas for moments that didn’t fit in the film that I’m working with. There are also some amazing moments in the novelization I want to incorporate. So it’s really a mix of material from existing versions of the story, as well as new scenes.”
From that you can glean the comic book will indeed include material not seen in the feature film, which Marvel has confirmed. While we doubt it’ll alter the tone of the story, this sounds like a must read for not only those who love Star Wars comics, but also those who have an affinity for movie trivia.
Although you may very well be familiar with the basic plot of Rogue One, the publisher has provided the below synopsis for those looking for more information:
All appears lost in the fight against the tyrannical Galactic Empire. The Rebellion has discovered the existence of the Empire’s ultimate super-weapon. The Death Star. With the power to wipe planets from existence, the Death Star’s existence spells doom for those seeking freedom. All hope now lies in the hands of new heroes Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor. Their last ditch gambit to steal the Death Star plans are all that stands in the Empire’s way!
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Adaptation #1 is set to arrive in comic shops sometime this April. Be sure to check out two pieces of cover art below: A standard by way of Phil Noto and an action figure variant courtesy of John Tyler Christopher.
