Avatar actress Zoe Saldana had a funny yet relatable reaction after discovering when the fifth and last installment of the Avatar film franchise would be released. It had taken over a decade before Avatar: The Way of Water came out in theaters; not to mention, James Cameron had plans to release three more movies after the film’s success. Unfortunately, because this franchise is a high-budget blockbuster, we shouldn’t expect the movies to come out as quickly as others.

Over on Instagram, Saldana shared a post that revealed that Avatar 5 is scheduled to come out sometime in 2031. Considering all the effort and VFX that were put into this film, it makes sense why it would take nearly a decade to finish the entire film franchise. There is just one problem — the actor’s age.

You have to feel bad for Saldana, who will be close to retirement age by the time the fifth film comes out. But then again, she could be a strong grandma since the sequel established that she and Jake have children. Not to mention, she plays a CGI character that she controls using motion capture. So while she may look old in real life, VFX artists could make her look younger, like she never aged. It worked for Sigourney Weaver, who played a teenager in the film.

While details for Avatar 4 and 5 haven’t been revealed, we know some things about the upcoming third installment. For starters, it was last reported that it’s currently sitting at 9 hours, and Cameron wants to have all VFX finished before cutting the film down. It was also said that the third film will show the bad sides of the Na’vi people as viewers will be introduced to a fire tribe known as the ‘Ash People.’

So as we wait patiently for Avatar 3 to come out sometime in 2025, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water are available to stream on Disney Plus. You can also catch the sequel on Max.
