Having already accomplished a great deal in his life and career as a happily-married father of four, A-list superstar, successful producer, marketing savant, mobile service provider figurehead, gin magnate, and self-deprecator extraordinaire, Ryan Reynolds has seen and done it all.
And yet, one of his greatest achievements also ranks as the most unlikely; this time a few years ago, suggesting that the Deadpool star would partner up with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator Rob McElhenney to purchase a Welsh soccer team that plays in the fifth tier of the English pyramid would have sounded nuts, and yet here we are.
Not only that, but Wrexham finally ended a 15 year-exile from the Football League last weekend by winning the National League with a record-breaking point total, a hugely emotional moment that Paul Rudd was there to capture on camera. Going one step further, Reynolds has now released a video dedicated to the people of the city, and it’s hard not to feel yourself welling up, too.
Thanks to the docuseries chronicling the Hollywood duo’s takeover and subsequent trials and tribulations at the helm of the club, Wrexham are without a doubt one of the most famous teams in soccer, if not all of sports. That would have been unthinkable to even the most dedicated of supporters not too long ago, but that’s where we find ourselves, with Reynolds happy to admit that it ranks right up there with the greatest achievements of his entire life. The only real question is how much further the story can go.
